How the Fremont Minimum Wage Is Set Each Year
Fremont sets its local minimum wage by ordinance. Under the Fremont Minimum Wage Ordinance, the City reviews the wage floor annually and adjusts it based on the Bay Area Consumer Price Index published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The adjustment takes effect every July 1.
City staff calculate the percentage change in the Bay Area Consumer Price Index for the prior 12-month period, then apply that percentage to the current minimum wage to produce the new rate. The City typically publishes the new rate in April or May — giving employers roughly two months to update payroll before the July 1 effective date.
This mechanism means the Fremont rate will continue rising each year as long as area prices increase. For long-range labor cost planning, budgeting for an annual increase of 1.5–3% is reasonable based on recent CPI trends.
When Will the 2027 Rate Be Announced?
